Yorkshire RFU has two Representatives who are elected by the Clubs in the County to sit on the RFU Council. They also participate in Sub-Committees of the RFU which report to the Community Game Board. Keep checking back on a monthly basis as your Reps keep you up to date with relevant matters from the RFU.

March 2019

The next meeting of RFU Council is on Friday 12th April 2019. Community Game Board next meets in May (8th/9th) part of this will be a joint CGB with counterparts from Ireland, Scotland & Wales

Budgets 2019/20 -  as you will expect a great deal of time has been expended on setting a budget for 2019/20. This culminated in CGB submitting a budget to RFU Board on 27th March which has been accepted by them. (NOTE: Under RFU Rules it is the Board who have to set the budget)  The Community Development Budget was reduced by approximately £4.6m and, given that the majority of costs involve personnel and protected income (e.g. O2 income has to be spent of the O2 Touch programme), then some very difficult decisions had to be made.  Rather than rehearse some of decisions here we will await formal communication from the RFU where any reductions in budget will be fully explained. If, following this, you wish further explanation then please do not hesitate to contact either Jim or Ted.

Global League – you will have seen considerable coverage over World Rugby proposals for a global league.  Nigel Melville (Interim CEO) and Andy Cosslett (Chairman) are continuing to monitor developments surrounding this and are providing Council with regular updates. There is still considerable ground for negotiation regarding broadcast rights and the place of the 6Nations within the structure and we will update you next month as these negotiations become clearly defined.

North League Review – the review group has reached its conclusions and reported back to North DOC on 26th March. The review’s recommendations were accepted by North DOC and the report will have been circulated to all clubs in the North.
