Yorkshire RFU has two Representatives who are elected by the Clubs in the County to sit on the RFU Council. They also participate in Sub-Committees of the RFU which report to the Community Game Board. Keep checking back on a monthly basis as your Reps keep you up to date with relevant matters from the RFU.

July 2020

RFU Council is now receiving fortnightly updates from the Chief Executive and Development Director. The next scheduled full meeting is October 2nd.  Community Game Board met on 16th July. No date has been set for a more formal meeting.

Once again, both Jim and Ted hope that you are Staying Safe and Staying Healthy. There is little to report since our last blog. Traditionally, July has always been a quiet month but this year we find that we are awaiting advice from the RFU and Government regarding our return to play.

Return to Rugby – a reminder that we still remain at Stage B on the Return to Rugby Protocol. Whilst we are allowed to train in groups of 6, strict hygiene and social distancing MUST be maintained.  Sadly, the RFU had to issue fairly strong reminders of the consequences of not following this guidance after reports of some clubs seriously breaching the guidelines (happily, not in our region).  Please remember the guidelines are for your safety and to help contain the virus.

Latest Lockdown Easing – the Government has announced that community sports can begin to return and RFU medical and safeguarding staff are currently working on an action plan that could see some relaxation in the measures outlined above.  Once this has been drawn up it needs to go through Sport England and DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture Media & Sport) who MUST approve the action plan before it can be implemented.

Autumn Internationals – again, the Government has signalled that some elite sporting events could see the return of spectators.  However, this is likely to include social distancing and additional safety measures.  In terms of Autumn Internationals at Twickenham this could mean :
·         Reduced capacity
·         Reduced travel to and from the ground by public transport
·         Revised entry protocols (including temperature testing, timed entrance to the ground etc)
·         Reduced catering facilities
None of these have yet to be approved but we remain hopeful that we can return to some form of event at Twickenham. As always, we will try and keep you informed as and when the RFU receive Guidance.

RFU Finances – the Finances of the RFU are almost entirely derived from ticket monies.  Whilst uncertainty around international fixtures remains it is almost impossible for the RFU to fix a budget for the coming season and, indeed, a number of scenarios have been forecast.  What is certain is that RFU income will be seriously lower than anticipated and, therefore, activities that can be funded will be severely limited and any funding will focus around sustainability and recovery of both the RFU and member clubs.
