RFU Council is scheduled to meet on Friday, 24th April.
Community Game Board will next meet on Thursday 9th April via.
Telephone Conference.
Rugby Season – as everyone is aware Community Game
Board took the unprecedented decision to end the current season. We hope that clubs will support this decision
in the best interests of society as a whole and our own community which must
safeguard itself until the current situation resolves itself. In taking the decision
it became clear that even if the current pandemic eased the season would need
to be extended taking in May if not going into June. The decision has also been taken to cancel
the three County Championships (Jason Leonard, Gill Burns and Bill Beaumont
Cups respectively). An announcement will be made regarding these competitions
in the 20/21 season.
The RFU has established a Competitions Lockdown
Task Group (COLT) which will consider and make recommendations on the outcome
of the current season with regard to promotion/relegation. Should the season
just end and we start again next year, or should some form of
promotion/relegation be instigated? The group, under the Chairmanship of Terry
Burwell (Hampshire), is currently scheduled to provide a report to the Board by
mid-April.
Community Game Update – obviously, the
situation is under constant review and any decisions made by the Board in
addition to details of help available to clubs will be made via. the Community
Game Update which will be issued on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future.
The Update is delivered to Club Secretaries and CB Officials and should be
widely distributed to key personnel throughout clubs, so that we are all aware.
If clubs have specific queries then these should be directed, in the first
instance, to your RDO. Please be aware that the offices at Twickenham are
currently closed with staff working from home in the main. Queries may,
therefore, take longer than usual to be resolved.
These are, obviously, unprecedented and uncertain
times. Despite what you may read in the
Press please be assured that the RFU is working hard to try and minimise the
effects that the virus is having on our game. No-one knows when the current
situation will end and when we will be able to resume “normal” activities. All we can ask is that you stay up to date
through the Community Game Update and plan accordingly for the resumption of
rugby.
In the meantime both Ted and Jim hope you will
stay safe and stay healthy
