RFU Council is due to meet on Friday, 5th February, although there may be updates before that date. CGB is due to meet on January 27th ,again it is likely that some updates will be issued prior to that date
Once again, both Jim and Ted hope that you are Staying Safe and Staying Healthy. The situation regarding any Return to Rugby does not look particularly rosy at the moment with the pandemic showing little sign of easing. Hopefully, the advent of vaccines will begin to have an effect and we will be able to arrange both friendly and cluster fixtures, albeit under adapted laws.
As ever we would urge you to keep posted with the Community Game Update which is published regularly and should be spread around your club members to ensure that everyone is up to date with the latest guidance from the RFU.
Future Competitions Structures Group – continues to meet although its work is (as with everything) hampered by the current situation. The implementation date has now been put back until the start of the 2022/23 season. The main reason for this was to allow a “normal” season with the outcomes known (i.e. what finishing position will result in a position in the new structure etc.) Additional small “working groups” have been established to look at management structures, cup competitions, lower XVs etc. and these groups will, in the New Year, consult and report back to the main group.
Payment of Players – Jim Chapman is part of this group which is reviewing the Payment of Players recommendations now in their second year of operation
County Championship Review Group – again, Jim Chapman is part of this group. As you may be aware the County Championship, at all levels, was suspended for the current (20/21) season. This group is reviewing the current championship competitions at both Male and Female, Senior and U20 levels. Work has just begun on this (the initial meeting was in December) under the Chairmanship of Dr. Tim Miller (Council Member for the Referees Union). It is likely that the next stage will see some form of data gathering.
Finally, we both hope that you, your family and the extended groups that make up your club have had some form of Christmas, this year. We both wish you a very Happy New Year. Let’s hope that 2021 will see us back playing and administering, coaching and refereeing the Game that we all love.
