Yorkshire RFU has two Representatives who are elected by the Clubs in the County to sit on the RFU Council. They also participate in Sub-Committees of the RFU which report to the Community Game Board. Keep checking back on a monthly basis as your Reps keep you up to date with relevant matters from the RFU.

February 2020

RFU Council will meet on Friday, 24th April. Community Game Board will next meet on  Friday, 6th March.

Adult Male Future Competitions Structure Group  - work continues on this important change to the Game and, in particular, league structures.  RFU Council were given a comprehensive briefing on 24th February and it was stressed that NO DECISION has yet been made.  Recommendations will be put to the next Council meeting on April 24th and changes will not be implemented until season 21-22 to allow clubs to do some forward planning.

The survey remains open until 6th March at :

If you have not already completed the survey, then please take the time to make your views known.  Over 5,500 people have already filled it in (over 60% are directly involved in playing the game) but it is important that we get as many views as possible.

A series of consultation evenings will take place across the country allowing clubs to directly input into the deliberations of the group. These will commence on March 3rd and will run through until 30th March. Dates for these will shortly be communicated and County Office will send out an email when dates and venues are known.  (Note, that this consultation is in addition to that being undertake by the YRFU Competitions Sub-Committee.)

Ted Atkinson – as some may be aware Ted is currently unwell and has been advised to take a complete rest from all activities.  Any queries or questions should be directed either to Jim Chapman, or through County Office.  We wish Ted a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to full health.

Payment of Players Declarations – A reminder that ALL clubs at level 3 (National Division 1) and below are required to make a declaration regarding the payment of players.  This applies even if you don’t pay your players – you have to declare that this is the case.  The system will open on 1st March 2020 and all declarations must be completed by 30th June 2020 for the season 2019-2020. Failure to make a declaration will result in the withdrawal of RFU benefits to a club for season 2021-22.  The system will change slightly from last year’s process, so please ensure that any instructions are read carefully before filling in the declaration and, please, fill the declaration in as early as you possibly can – we know that some clubs left it too late last year.

RFU Nominations – the Nominations Committee of the RFU makes regular reports to RFU Council and at the last meeting put forward Rob Briers (Lancashire) as their nomination for Junior Vice President. Rob has a long and distinguished record at the RFU being the current Chair of Community Game Board and an RFU Board Member.  He will join the Presidential Team following the RFU AGM. Also passed at the meeting was the recommendation that Andy Cosslett remain as RFU Chairman for a further year. Chris Cuthbertson (Middlesex) was also recommended to remain at Chair of Governance Committee for a further two years.
